18thC teak iron bound chest. Originally this merchant chest was made to be used as a very secure chest for transporting valuables on the arduous journeys around the East. The lid opens to reveal a mainly open storage space, and a section to store small valuables and money.

Old wooden grinder, originally there was a heavy stone ball circulating in the wooden bowl. The herbs, cereals or olives were crushed or pressed by rolling the ball. The wood has a nice patina and traces of use. An industrial piece of art.

A rare pair of xxl French antique books, named 'Le moniteur universel', originally Gazette nationale or Le Moniteur universel, founded in 1789 by Charles-Joseph Panckoucke in Paris, was the main French official newspaper during much of the Revolution, the Consulate and the Empire, publishing parliamentary debates, government acts and official notices. These books are very decorative.

17thC atypical stone mortar

Atypical 17th century stone mortar. These mortars were used to crush herbs for apothecary or herbalist use. Nicely worn surface, two of the four handles are still visible. This mortar was used for years to feed a dog, the antique heavy chain has one side completely and deeply worn out, which gives an atypical design at this mortar.
